Encore treated guests at this year’s 2024 Air and Space Power Conference to an LED odyssey.
The Brief
The sky was the limit for this year’s brief to event production specialists, Encore, who were appointed the task of designing and delivering the 2024 Air and Space Power Conference. Having delivered the prestigious biennial event twice before, Encore was familiar with the production standard the event and its guests had come to expect. Presented only with a static graphic of the event’s proposed branding, whilst also relying on Encore’s past experience delivering the event, it was an open brief for their in-house team at the National Convention Centre Canberra.
The Solution
With all eyes on the stage, it was the focus for Encore’s design solution. This year the team opted for an all LED set design rather than projection. The aim was creating a look that was uniform and capable of delivering an incredibly bright experience that not only immersed guests in a space-travel-inspired experience, it also brought to life the colours and vibrancy in the event’s branded content more so than what projection could. This LED story continued right across the stage, including the digital lecterns and digital fascia on the presenter panel creating a seamless content display. Another key design element was creating depth and dimension using multiple levels and curved staging. It wouldn’t be a space themed event without the all-important star-cloth which the team added either side of the stage to frame the set. The event’s branded graphic also influenced the lighting design which used the same colours along with moving GOBOs of aeroplanes flying over the stage flooring. Haze was also strategically used throughout the event to add another layer that mimicked a cloudlike effect.
The Result
Encore’s render-to-reality service played a pivotal role in communicating the end design concept. Better still, what was delivered on show day was exactly what was rendered. It’s this peace of mind which is why Encore is trusted with delivering events of this calibre year on year.
The team is still receiving glowing feedback from delegates and speakers about how successful and enjoyable the event was.
The event planners at Air Force Events are already looking forward to seeing what Encore delivers for their next event.
“I don’t know how you’ll be able to top this off in two years’ time. The LED screen made a huge impact. Everyone was talking about it!
“What I also really valued was the 3D renders. They allowed us to visualize every detail, from the layout and design to lighting and décor, giving us a clear picture of the final result and peace of mind our idea will be what’s delivered.”
Encore welcomes the challenge.

Encore proudly helped The Fullerton Hotel Sydney host 650 guests for the magnificent return of this year’s Tourism Accommodation Australia (NSW) Awards for Excellence. Our goal was to take the curved lines and colours of this year’s invite to inspire our event design, from the centrepieces through to Scenic Panel backdrop. Each table was brilliantly illuminated using 70x ShowPro R3 LED Wash Fixtures controlled via GrandMA and each screen on either side of the stage, and one at the rear measured a whopping 30ft x 10ft, making the audience feel immersed in the on-screen content. An incredible effort by everyone involved and truly wonderful occasion to be part of!
Encore had the privilege of delivering this year’s Essendon Football Club Hall of Fame Gala hosted at Victoria Pavilion for 450 special guests. It was one of the largest events Encore had the pleasure of delivering purely in-person since the start of the pandemic in 2020. As the in-house event production company at the venue, Encore provided a complete technical production solution.
A snapshot of what was included:
- 12 metre custom LED wall
- 16k Projection
- Extensive moving light package
- Content was created by Essendon Football Club under our recommendation for optimum impact across the LED.

Encore had the pleasure of hosting the 67th annual Victoria Training Awards 2021. Due to COVID restrictions prohibiting in-person events, the awards night were held completely virtual from the Encore Studio within Victoria Pavilion at Melbourne Showgrounds. The Victorian Training Awards recognise and honour the outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations in the Victorian TAFE and training sector. The prestigious Victorian Training Awards bring together apprentices, trainees, students, teachers, training providers, employers, and industry representatives, sharing in a high-quality training system that meets the needs of all Victorians.
Encore were asked to design a solution where they could stream from a studio for their hosts, and also have somewhere for all viewers to watch the live stream whilst engaging with each other on a virtual platform. Our Melbourne Studio fitted the brief perfectly as well as utilizing our interactive event platform – Chime Live.
The Melbourne Production department started with a blank room. Working from our 2020 Studio design and looking at new technology trends, the team came up with a space that could rival the TV networks. An abundance of Stage and Effect lighting fixtures compliments the giant LED screen which is at the centre of the Studio. Presenters were supported by a range of fold back monitors and screens, while the event is produced on Encore’s high end audio, lighting and vision systems. Encore’s multimedia department also assist in the creation of motion animations and keynote presentations.
The Queensland Hotels Association (QHA) Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner & Presentation – now in its 23rd year – was held at the Great Hall at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on Wednesday 23 September. 1,000 guests flocked to this annual awards event which recognises the state’s best pubs, hotels and hoteliers. Hotels large and small from all over Queensland participated in the 2015 awards program, which this year saw a record number of nominations. The brief was to deliver a spectacular awards night with the main focus on creating a stunning stage environment and engaging multimedia content. The challenge was striking the right balance between being respectful of the 100 year ANZAC tribute and festivities celebrating award winners. The hero of the room was the massive 27x4m curved screen provided by BCEC. Our crystal chandelier complemented the ‘big look’ and added glamour and a celebratory ambience for award recipients and their colleagues. The highlight of the evening was the opening showreel we created as a homage to the ANZACs.
It was a star-studded evening for this year’s Starry Starry Night fundraising event. Encore were engaged by Peter Jones Special Events to deliver all the audio vision, production management, lighting and staging for this prestigious gala dinner, which raised a staggering $700,000 towards keeping our children safe from violence. The event attracts more than 1,000 guests alongside 100 celebrities and entertainment stars, who individually host tables and perform a variety of singing and dancing acts. Special performances by (MC) David Campbell, Leo Sayer, Gorgi Coghlan and Waleed Aly from The Project amongst many others! The stunning room look was created using a black gloss, gold mirror and brushed metals, with the ceiling installation a hero for the evening. With so many celebrities and the like in attendance, we used our Event Feed to display all the social buzz live on screen. The activity this generated resulted in the event’s hashtag trending on Australia’s Twitter feed that evening.
Encore was engaged by Auto & General to create a gala dinner event that was a work of art, celebrating and honouring its 1,200 guests. Transporting guests into a fantasy world of crystals and Vanity Fair inspired parties that surprised and delighted them. Utilising the symbol for a 15 year partnership, crystals were selected as the basis of the event creative concept. The grand entrance was created using red carpet flanked by bollards and rope and a custom branded media backdrop for photo opportunities. Once guests entered the main room, they were greeted with a stunning ‘Vanity Fair’ style Event Backdrop covered entirely in lush greenery and featuring white 3D lettering of ’15 years’, – creating another perfect photo op for guests. The hero room feature was the giant mirror ball surrounded by 6m long crystal beaded chandeliers, and when lit cast thousands of moving sparkles around the room. As a special treat for the guests, they were treated to a flash mob performance by several Auto & General employees and finished with Captain Risky. Our unique concept included a lovely 12mL x 6mH beaded ‘crystal’ curtain used as the backdrop for the in house stage. This allowed a grand entrance for the star performer at the end of the night; Guy Sebastian.
