The Opportunity: Technical Director
The Technical Director is responsible in providing high end technical and event expertise and to be a resource for the entire event production process from the event inception through to the final delivery. The role is also responsible for the effective supervision of technicians in the delivery, installation, operation, and removal of audio-visual equipment required to operate shows of any size and complexity. In addition, the Technical Director is responsible for technical consultation and advice to the business.
Core Responsibilities
- Determines event specifications – create event design based on customer requirements and ensures cost estimates stay within budget parameters
- Develops and maintains event schedule within specifications estimating labour, equipment and transport requirements
- On Site Event management – communicates show brief to venue, crew and suppliers on the day of event and co-ordinates event progress to meet client expectations
- May be asked to attend client meetings and briefings as required
- Ensures quality control through following job checking procedure
- Follows up on any event issues with appropriate people
- Research new technology and maintain knowledge of current technology trends
- Provide on the job coaching and mentoring to crew at base and at on site venues
- Provide technical advice to sales department and assists with cost estimates as required
- Ensure that appropriately trained crew are rostered for the event
- Ensure all equipment is in working order before it is dispatched
- Assists in packing trucks as required
- Ensures appropriate costs are recharged to specific jobs including production, double time, site surveys, crew overruns
- Provide in-bound sales team with cost estimates and check out-bound estimates on daily basis in areas of specification, equipment availability & suitability
- Conduct site surveys as required in consultation with the Sales person
- Display effective leadership skills to ensure optimum performance from the crew – this includes monitoring crew attitude, productivity and appearance while on a shift
- Seek out opportunities for operational improvements
- Be approachable and accessible to provide advice and guidance to staff as well as acting as a sounding board
- Motivate the crew to achieve their objectives
- Monitor the morale of the crew and take appropriate remedial action when required
- Build and sustain an effective crew to meet the business objectives
- Provide coaching and mentoring to develop and optimise individual and crew capability
- Assist in increasing the technical skills of the venue based crew whilst assigned to a specific venue
- Manage crew work hours, breaks and allocation of job tasks
- Identify roadblocks that impact the performance of the individual or the team and resolve or escalate as appropriate
- Maintain and promote a safe and healthy work environment
What we're looking for in our Technical Director
- Previous experience in a similar role
- Experience in corporate events
- Customer centric and excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Sound knowledge of Audio-Visual Equipment and the hire thereof.
- Excellent planning, organisational, time management & account management skills.
