The Opportunity: Duty Manager

We’re on the lookout for an Duty Manager join our operations team. Reporting to the Venue Services Manager, the Duty Manager is responsible for supporting the VSM in the day-to-day operational duties that events runs smoothly from an operational perspective within the revenue.

Core Responsibilities

  • A comprehensive understanding of all technical areas and a high level of practical experience.
  • Exercises a professional manner in liaising with a wide range of specialist sub-contractors
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of event production
  • Sound working knowledge of theatrical devices and good eye for detail
  • Demonstrates superior fault finding capabilities and considers technical redundancy in show specifications.
  • Ensures the security of equipment and cables
  • Assists in the installation, operation and pack down of equipment in a safe manner as required
  • Notifies the Client Operations Supervisor or day operations of any difficulties related to venues/job
  • Assist the Client Operations Team to ensure the efficient running of event staging services within the venue
  • Ensure the smooth and efficient running of the audiovisual department activities
  • Check rooms including set up of audio visual equipment prior to function commencement
  • Co-ordinate with venue set-up and breakdown staff so as to provide smooth interaction between venue tasks and Encore
  • Liaise with the Client Operations Team to ensure clear communication regarding events in the venue
  • Inform the appropriate people of any areas of concern so that problems with equipment, crew, venue staff or clients can be rectified expediently
  • Assist where needed, the rostering/sourcing of crew to complete daily tasks
  • Assist crew with the responsibility for the maintenance and storage of all equipment
  • Log all damage to Encore and/or venue property and take appropriate action to mitigate loss
  • Responsible for the appearance and operational performance of staff
  • Understand and adhere to the Client Venue Policies and Procedures and ensure Encore crew at the Host Venue follow these
  • Where necessary, make changes and additions to jobs quoted to ensure the correct equipment is on the order and available.
  • Assist in stock control and monitor the integrity of equipment for the venue
  • Attend operational meetings with venue personnel
  • Ensure the maintenance and cleanliness of all storage areas and equipment within the venue

What we're looking for in a Duty Manager

The successful candidate will be a customer focused individual who demonstrates a high level of understanding the clients needs and being able to recommend solutions. If you’re passionate about events and looking for career progression in the Audio Visual and Events industry, then we want to hear from you!

  • Proven track record of managing a team of people
  • Proven management or supervisory experience
  • Experience in the Hospitality or Events industry highly desirable
  • Must have demonstrated a minimum 2 years experience as crew
  • Experience with and a sound working knowledge of, rigging truss frameworks, projectors, lighting, screens and mechanical winches; hydraulic platforms and lifters; pulley reveal systems; electrical junction boxes and power distribution
  • Must be able to earn the respect and confidence of the crew, something which is not possible without a portfolio of successful past events
  • Must have some experience in all aspects of events from the hotel banquets policy to the freight company operation
  • High level computer skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Time management skills; the ability to manage multiple and competing deadlines
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure

  • Elevated Work Platform licence
  • Current Drivers licence
